Listerine Oral Care Challenge - The Results

Monday, 26 December 2011

Almost one month ago, my family was invited to take the Listerine Oral Care Challenge. You can read about 'My Family is Taking the Listerine Oral Care Challenge' to see why I wanted to participate. The main reason is for my son. Cody is nine and would rather do just about anything than brush his teeth.

To be perfectly honest, he doesn't mind brushing so much as that he brushes like he were Speedy Gonzales. I'm sure if there were a Guinness Book of World Record for the fastest teeth brushing, he'd win. So as part of the challenge, I told him he had to spend two minutes brushing his teeth, twice a day. As well as, rinsing for 60 seconds. An idea I liked from board certified pediatric dentist and member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Kaneta Lott, was to use music.

Since brushing, flossing, and rinsing are rhythmic activities, playing music while they do these activities, aids in getting kids to do them long enough. Since it's December, he chose a favorite Christmas CD and twice a day he listened to the Christmas songs as he brushed. Not to mention all the new oral care supplies we received from Listerine to help us in our challenge, really helped my son maintain his end of the deal.

There was some reisitance at first. Evidently, three minutes is an eternity when you're doing something you don't want to be doing. But, as my son so often does... he excelled. He was up to the challenge. Every day since December 3rd, he has brushed his teeth, flossed, and rinced twice a day.

Oh, my hubby and I have participated in the challenge as well. Although it was nice using Listerine Total Care Zero to rinse with.... because mouth washes containing alcohol is just down right painful. So it was easy to spend a full minute rinsing.

I think my family are on the right steps to keeping a good, healthy oral care routine. My son is even enjoying it. Yay!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Listerine and received a sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

My one son is almost ten and we have to force him to brush his teeth so I should try this! Maybe he would brush his teeth without me having to tell him to. Smile

That's great! I'm glad to see it helped him with his mouth routine twice a day.

That's great that it helped your son! My middle child hates brushing her teeth too.
