American Idol... and then there were 4

idol-logo1a My electricity went off last night so I didn't get to watch the Season 8 American Idol result show until midnight.  So I am writing the condensed - short and sweet version this week.

Natalie Cole, Taylor Hicks and Jamie Foxx performed last night.  Real quick - Taylor Hicks looked good.

I am so upset that Adam, yes that's what I said... Adam was in the bottom three.  The only thing I can figure is, everyone thought Adam was safe and didn't bother to vote.  Anyway, Adam, Kris and Matt were in the bottom three.

Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta are safe.  I'm very happy about this but Adam should have been with them.  That leaves Adam, Kris and Matt.  I have my fingers crossed it is Matt that goes home.  Ryan sends Kris back first.  Okay, I want Kris to be safe too, but not before Adam.  And finally, we find out it is Matt.

Matt Giraud is the American Idol contestant to leave and now we have our final four.

Next week watch Season 8 American Idol on Fox at 8:00 pm. EST to watch Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey Allison Iraheta and Kris Allen.

Honestly, I don't think it really matters who wins because they will all get contracts.  We have not heard the last of these four to be sure.

I am a real fan of Adam's but I was not entirely surprised to see him in the bottom two. A bit, but not entirely. I have loved every one of his performances but this last performance didn't make me say WOW! I think it is because I have come to expect this much of him by now and maybe that is playing against him. He was great...as usual.

On the other hand, Danny really stepped it up a notch...in a big way and I really did say WOW when he nailed that number of his. He is still my pick for the ultimate idol winner because he has talent (which is evolving..something that audience members love to watch) , a unique voice, and an incredibly powerful back story that really tugs emotionally on the viewer.

Consider that the votes for Lil and Anoop have to go somewhere now. Maybe those voters that have a preference for female vocalists all moved their votes from Lil to Allison. I was surprised to see Alison elevated to SAFE this week but she was great and I'm happy for her.

I don't think Adam is going to win this whole thing. I could be wrong but I think his style is just too extreme for some people. I know he is versatile (more so than we have even seen from him yet if YouTube videos are any indication) but I think he is just too over-the top for many people, and might even threaten some of the macho-male homo-phob types. One way or the other though...Adam has a huge career ahead of him. Have known that since his first appearance. However, you just never can tell huh?
